“Why are we talking about Metrics? I’m not one for numbers.” These were some of my first thoughts as our team began a conversation about metrics. But I quickly learned that metrics don’t just have to do with numbers, but stories…AND that stories are the most powerful metrics.

“I am a story person. I could maybe get behind this. But should we care about metrics? Is this right on?”

I think so! God is a storyteller!

At the first Passover, He laid out exactly what to do in great detail. “This is what I want you to do. This is what I am going to do. And when you have reached the land that I have promised to you, celebrate by doing this each year until forever. And when your children ask what it means, tell them the story.”

So they never forget.

I was visiting family for the holidays. I don’t get to see them very often. But this conversation with my 3-year-old nephew evolved over the visit.

“Hunter, guess what”

“What?”

“I love you.”

“I love you too. We say that every single day.”

“Why?”

“So we never forget.”

So we never forget. So we never forget the God who created us, who loves us, who delivered the Israelites from their oppressors, and does the same for us today. So we never forget that the God who began the story that we read about, is still writing his story in your life. And God is the best story-teller. These stories, or metrics, cause us celebrate and to worship. After Moses told the elders about God’s plan, they “bowed low and worshipped.” (Exodus 12:27)

We share the story. We are encouraged by the story. The story causes us to celebrate and to worship. Go, live the story, and then share it with someone who needs to hear.
